A Promise Kept, a Book Discovered
Fifty years ago, my mom made a promise to her grandmother that she would return to Paris. This summer, I got to be there when she kept it. Somewhere between the museums, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower, we found ourselves at Shakespeare and Company, where a stranger picked our next Marked and Mailed read.
The Art Thief: Love, Lies, and Recess Drama
Was Anne-Catherine a lovestruck teenager caught in a toxic relationship, or did she enjoy the thrill of stealing priceless art? The more I read The Art Thief, the more it feels like middle school recess drama. Everyone has a story, nobody's story quite matches, and I'm left wondering who's telling the truth.
Should I? Or Can I? Lessons from The Art Thief
I finished The Art Thief wondering how someone could steal hundreds of priceless artifacts without a second thought. Then I realized some people ask, “Should I?” while others ask, “Can I?” Maybe there's something to learn from that. Disneyland, anyone?
The Night We Lost Him: Not the Thriller I Expected
This book had me hooked from pretty early on. I was very invested in each storyline, it was like steaming hot tea delivered from my best friend. It felt like a guilty indulgence, like watching trash TV. I turned on the audiobook every chance I got, I even volunteered to walk the dog so that I could have more time listening to the book.
Nothing Good Happens After 2 A.M.
I haven't done much reading this week, unless you count the chapters I immediately forget at 3 a.m. Somewhere between The Ex-Vows and an Instagram algorithm determined to terrify me, I'm starting to think it's time for a screen detox.
