A Gift in Life
I should follow my last blog post. I still trust Jill. I trust all the book club members. I don’t think I could do this kind of book club with people who didn’t know the darkest crevices of my soul. I write my innermost thoughts in the margin. I compare it to experiences we’ve had together. “Remember the time….” Being friends with someone for 26 years gives you many shared experiences. As I read the book, I can hear their voices in their comments and questions. I imagine their faces as they write them. I picture Jill’s face full of glee as she picks Yesteryear. I imagine she already knows what I will write in the margins as I read it. What we all will write and how different they will be. And when she gets it back, she’ll laugh because she was right. How wonderful a gift in this life is that?
